Environmental Consultant

Berkley, Michigan - PM Environmental, Inc. (PM) is looking for a talented Environmental Consultant for our Berkley, Michigan office. PM is an established privately held environmental consulting firm headquartered in Michigan, with offices nationwide, servicing clients throughout the United States. Duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Preparing spill (SPCC, PIPP, etc.) and storm water plans
  • Preparing NPDES and/or discharge permits permit applications and working with regulators to obtain associated permits, and conducting discharge permit monitoring and/or reporting
  • Conducting spill and storm water compliance inspections
  • Completing environmental compliance audits including:
    • Review of chemical use and management , storage, and hazard communication
    • Waste generation including hazardous waste, non-hazardous, and other industrial waste
    • Wastewater and storm water discharges
    • Air emissions
    • Facility and equipment hazardous materials including PCBs and asbestos-containing building materials.
  • Conducting hazardous materials inventory and release reporting
  • Budget development and analysis of project performance
  • Project management and oversight of multiple projects.  This includes the management of external communication with related stakeholders as well as internal communication with project managers across multiple department service lines
  • Business development activities

Desired Qualifications include:

  • Five years minimum experience with the duties listed above
  • Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Environmental Science or related field
  • Experience with Due Diligence report writing, specifically Phase I ESAs and Phase II ESA/BEAs is preferred
  • Ability to smoothly handle client/customer interactions in a fast-paced, deadline driven, work environment
  • Strong problem solving and organizational skills, with the ability to multi-task, prioritize and manage multiple projects with a keen attention to detail
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Evening hours and overtime are required, on occasion

Project Management Assistant (PMA)

Berkley, Michigan - PM Environmental, Inc. (PM) is looking for a talented Project Management Assistant (PMA) to join our team in Berkley, Michigan. Consideration may be given to applicants who desire to work out of another Michigan-based office. PM is an established privately held environmental consulting firm headquartered in Michigan, with offices nationwide, servicing clients throughout the United States.

The PMA will provide administrative assistance and Deltek Vision project management support while exercising a high degree of initiative, discretion, and independent judgment, including confidential work, to the project managers, completing tasks as assigned. On all counts, respect the boundaries and realize when you must defer to the assistant controller or project manager.

Duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Perform important administrative functions for the project manager
  • Create, format, and manage the preparation of reports and contract documentation
  • Coordinating travel arrangements for project manager and team as needed
  • Handle filing, incoming faxes and answer multiple phone system
  • Communicate with clients via telephone/email, as requested by project manager
  • Perform accounting software functions (Deltek Vision) as well as project setups, financial project reporting and invoicing responsibilities
  • Photocopying, binding and distributing correspondence
  • Training new hires within the department, as directed by Assistant Controller

Desired Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Must be a professional and maintain a strict level of confidentiality at all times
  • Demonstrated background of providing administrative support
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills – must work well with various levels of managers, technical and administrative staff – must be a strong team player who works well with other employees to achieve positive results.
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in MS Office (including MS Word, MS Excel, Adobe, and MS PowerPoint)
  • Finance experience in accounting, Deltek Vision preferred, but not required
  • Must have the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines while working independently; handle routine tasks with minimal supervision
  • Strong organizational and follow-through skills
  • A valid driver's license

Brownfield Consultant

Berkley, Michigan - PM Environmental, Inc. (PM) is looking for a talented Brownfield Incentives Consultant. PM is an established privately held environmental consulting firm headquartered in Michigan, with offices nationwide, servicing clients throughout the United States. Duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Preparation and analysis of financing incentives opportunities for Brownfield development projects in Michigan, including management of Local Brownfield Plans and Act 381 Work Plans, tax abatements, State of Michigan grant and loan programs, etc.
  • Budget development and analysis of project performance, particularly as it relates to Local Brownfield Plans and Act 381 Work Plans, tax abatement, State of Michigan grant and loan programs, etc.
  • Writing and managing Federal and State of Michigan applications, contracts, and programs, particularly MEDC Grant and Loan Programs, MDEQ Grant and Loans, and EPA Brownfield Program (i.e. Assessment, Cleanup, and Revolving Loan Funds)
  • Project management and oversight of multiple projects. This includes the management of external communication with related stakeholders (clients, municipalities, quasi-governmental agencies, local community groups, etc.) as well as internal communication with project managers across multiple department service lines
  • Occasionally, project presentation/public speaking will be required at City Council/Commission and Brownfield Redevelopment Authority meetings as well as additional similar meetings
  • Business development activities

Desired Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Urban and Regional Planning, Environmental Science or related field
  • Two years minimum experience with the duties listed above
  • Strong understanding of due care and additional response activities required in association with redevelopment projects
  • Experience with Due Diligence report writing, specifically Phase I ESAs and Phase II ESA/BEAs is preferred

Environmental Compliance Technician

Decatur/Birmingham, Alabama and Charlotte, North Carolina - PM Environmental, Inc. (PM) is looking for talented Environmental Compliance Technicians to join our teams in Murfreesboro, Tennessee (or surrounding area) and Charlotte, North Carolina. PM is a growing, 20+ year old environmental and engineering services company with offices in over 10 states. The Environmental Compliance Technician will report to the Manager, Environmental Compliance Services in our Mid-South Region.

This position typically consists of a split between office and field duties. Field duties include site service calls and repairs. This will require you to be on call for covered service lines 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. Office work includes project coordination, data management, completion of service orders, accurate parts and inventory allocation and client maintenance.
Duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Understand why the project is being completed and who PM’s customer is. For example, PM could be working for the owner, a potential buyer, a bank, a regulatory agency, etc
  • Review and thoroughly evaluate project work orders to verify the adequacy of the scope of work to assure the objectives of the project are being met
  • Ensure that all steps and procedures are taken according to industry standards and PM standards and that all work is completed as planned and scheduled. This includes keeping the client informed of the on-going status of a project
  • Ensure health and safety procedures are in place, utilities are marked by One Call and/or other utility marking companies prior to any excavations
  • Prepare high quality paperwork / documentation – ensure that all paperwork is completed per industry and PM standards
  • Control Costs – as part of the management of each project, ensure that costs are kept in line with the original budget for time, travel, and material expenses. Discuss variations with the Group Manager and issue project change notices to reflect agreed-upon changes
  • Maximize Project Profitability – Through appropriate project budgeting / pricing, utilization of resources and cost controls, maximize the profit margin on individual projects
  • Periodically attend training workshops, conferences, presentations, etc.
  • Review any internal standard memos, organizational or structural changes for PM and keep track of any changes that may impact the projects that the technician is working on. This includes template changes, organizational changes, and client final product information (i.e., number of reports required, checklists for final reports required, etc.)
  • Be a Public Relations Ambassador – Be proactive in presenting and communicating the capabilities and strengths of the company to the public
  • Communicate Opportunities – Communicate / present potential new business or resource information, competitive situations, or technology / regulatory factors to the Group Manager

Desired Qualifications

  • High School Diploma, or equivalent, is required
  • 1 to 3 years’ experience working with petroleum equipment and ancillary systems
  • Previous experience with gasoline dispensers and Automatic Tank Gauge certifications is preferred
  • Vacuum tank and construction experience are also preferred

Due Diligence Environmental Professional

Birmingham, Alabama, Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Berkley, Michigan and Long Beach, California - PM Environmental, Inc. (PM) is looking for a talented Due Diligence Environmental Professional to join our team. PM is a growing, 20+ year old environmental and engineering services company with offices in over 10 states. The Due Diligence Environmental Professional will report to the appropriate Regional Due Diligence Manager. Duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Completion of Phase I Environmental Site Assessments and related Due Diligence Projects
  • Provide high quality Environmental Site Assessment reports by ensuring that reports are complete to industry and PM standards
  • Develop and maintain client relationships
  • Site walks
  • Project coordination

Desired Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Geology or Related field
  • Up to 5 years of experience in Environmental Consulting; experience with Phase I ESAs preferred. Candidates that meet all other requirements, but have no experience, may be considered. 
    A minimum of 3 years of Phase I ESA experience is required for the Long Beach, California position.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • A valid driver’s license is required
  • Ability to work in various settings and climates
  • Must have strong organization skills
  • Must have keen attention to detail
  • Ability to work flexible hours and be available for travel

Project Manager/Industrial Hygienist

Lansing/Grand Rapids/Detroit, Michigan - PM Environmental, Inc. (PM) is looking for a talented Project Manager/Industrial Hygienist to work with our Industrial Hygiene Department at Lansing/Grand Rapids Regional office(s).
Duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Overall Project Management and Report Writing
  • Performing asbestos, lead, and hazardous materials inspections and surveys
  • Responsible for abatement oversight and air monitoring
  • Writing high quality, technical reports

Desired Qualifications

  • High School Graduate or equivalent; Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Studies, Geology, or related field is preferred
  • NIOSH 582 Certification
  • Michigan Asbestos Inspector License is required; certifications in other Midwest States is preferred
  • Michigan Lead Inspector / Risk Assessor is required; certifications in other Midwest States is preferred
  • At least 5 years of experience with building material surveys, asbestos abatement oversight and air monitoring, and lead inspections
  • Ability to lead and supervisor junior staff
  • Ability to travel and work overtime as needed
  • Keen attention to detail
  • Effective time management
