Mark Edwards, regional manager at PM Environmental, recently earned a Professional Geologist’s (P.G.) license in the State of California. Located in Roseville, Calif., Edwards will now be able to independently conduct and oversee geological work, such as subsurface investigations and remediation operations. 

“Obtaining a P.G. license has been a long-term goal of mine,” said Edwards. “Geological work conducted within California must be performed by a California P.G. or under the responsible charge of a California P.G. Taking the necessary steps to get licensed was the logical choice to further my career and expand my capabilities at PM.” 

To acquire the P.G. license, Edwards had to accumulate a minimum of five years of relevant education and experience in the geological sciences as well as pass three exams, including the National Association of State Boards of Geology (ASBOG) Fundamentals of Geology, ASBOG Practice of Geology, and the California Specific Exam.

“I put lots of pressure on myself to ensure I passed these exams,” said Edwards. “Now that I’ve succeeded, I am very excited to move forward.” 

Edwards obtained a B.S. degree in geology from the University of California, Davis. Shortly thereafter, he began work with a geotechnical and environmental consulting firm in the Sacramento area, and primarily conducted field work in the initial phases of large commercial and residential development projects. Previous experience also includes assessing Northern California’s levee systems for URS and working on due diligence projects for commercial real estate transactions for Enercon Services, Inc. For the past two years, Edwards has been the site investigations lead for PM’s western region. 

“Obtaining the P.G. license for California was a major accomplishment for me,” said Edwards. “It was also an important step for growing PM’s capabilities in the west, as we look to grow in Arizona, Oregon, and Washington.”
