Phase I ESA for Former Crest Motel in Howell, Michigan
For decades the Crest Motel operated in Howell, Michigan before foreclosure in 2018. After standing unoccupied, PM Environmental, a Pinchin Company was called upon to do a Phase I Environmental Site Assessment (ESA) on the approximately 5,000-square foot building.
With PM completing its exceptional Phase I ESA, the building will now transition into housing called Bethel Suites. Bethel Suites will be home to motel and apartment style units that will be available at reduced rates on a weekly or monthly basis.
PM providing the services of a Phase I ESA, provided the opportunity for the Community Catalysts Development, Co., a non-profit based in Livingston County, MI to put nearly $1.5 million towards renovations, which included converting a garage to living spaces to increase the living space from 11 to 14 fully furnished units. The property to formerly be known as Bethel Suites will also provide services such as free job coaching, mental health services, community dinners and work placement programs.
The project was largely funded through donations and loans with professionals offering free or reduced rates for services. Many of the facilities guests at Bethel Suites will be actively employed adults who don’t make enough income to easily save for upfront costs such as security deposits.
Not only did PM provide a Phase I ESA to the property, PM’s Due Diligence Staff and many others will volunteer their time at the project site to help with tasks such as clean-up, painting walls, etc. Making this project not just your ordinary Phase I ESA, but one that shows how PM continues to help in the community.
