PM Environmental Expands into Oak Park, Michigan, Continues Firm’s Growth
With the rising momentum of Detroit’s redevelopment, a shortage of storage and work space, and plenty of growth opportunities on the horizon, PM Environmental is increasing its Southeast Michigan presence with a new office in Oak Park, Michigan. It will be the sixth office in Michigan and the company’s 16th nationwide.
The building, which is located at 15431 West Eleven Mile Road, Oak Park, sits directly across the street from PM’s full-service Berkley, Michigan office. It is comprised of just under 9,000 square feet of office and warehouse space; perfect for PM’s growing Industrial Hygiene and Site Investigation Services departments.
“We are operating at maximum capacity in our Berkley office, and this location is the solution to continue our organic growth. The move includes a dozen of our field services and industrial hygiene team, including 15 vehicles and four trailers,” said Mike Kulka, founder and CEO of PM Environmental.
The building has recently been renovated and has three large commercial overhead doors that will provide ample storage space for PM’s specialized environmental sampling drill rigs and other equipment. The new building will also create a secure and controlled environment for crews to dispatch from each morning.
“We not only run as an environmental risk management firm, but also as a logistics company with our own fleet of vehicles and heavy equipment. Our close proximity to I-696 and the I-75 interchange made expanding across the street the best logical choice for expansion,” said Kulka.
While the new office is not a PM Brownfield redevelopment project, like most of PM’s current Michigan offices, it is part of the up-and-coming Oak Park 11 mile corridor. In 2018, the city of Oak Park was recognized as a Redevelopment Ready Community (RRC) by the Michigan Economic Development Corporation. The certification is given to cities who build on community assets to successfully attract private investment.
“Given the array of choices PM Environmental had in front of them in terms of selecting a site, the fact that they chose Oak Park speaks volumes about the progress we’ve made and our trajectory into the future. This is an innovative firm with a solid track record,” said Erik Tungate, Oak Park City Manager.
PM has already attempted to stave off overcapacity in its Berkley office once before. Near the beginning of 2017, PM moved 10 staff members to a new location in Chesterfield, Michigan. Just two years later, and after continued rapid growth, the firm may have finally found a permanent solution in Oak Park.
